People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City requested the Department of Industry and Trade to conduct a feasibility study on the location to establish 3 major logistics centers in the period of 2021 - 2025, which aims to form a system of logistics centers in Ho Chi Minh City.

This is one of the key contents of the project “Orientation of service infrastructure development in Ho Chi Minh City in the period of 2020-2025, towards 2040". It was approved by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. Of which, the relevant departments and units are assigned to develop thematic outlines, to study the orientation of spatial structure and infrastructure for the development of potential service industries in some key areas.

Specifically, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City assigned Department of Industry and Trade to carry out a feasibility study on the location of 3 large logistics centers, including: Cat Lai logistics center, Linh Trung logistics center and a logistics center with warehouse in Cu Chi in period 2021 - 2025, to gradually form a complete system of logistics center in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the same time, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City also assigned the Department of Transport to coordinate with the People's Committee of Thu Duc City and districts. The purpose is to review and arrange appropriate land funds in the process of formulating and adjusting Zone Plan.

Previously, Ho Chi Minh City also approved and promulgated the "Project on developing the logistics industry in the city to 2025, orientated to 2030". The goal is to make logistics a key service industry of the city, accounting for major proportion in the GRDP structure. Then, this industry will help Ho Chi Minh City enhance its role as a hub for domestic goods exchange and connect itself with international markets. It is supposed to contribute to reducing logistics costs of whole country.

When the project above is implemented, it will solve many problems not only for Ho Chi Minh City but the whole region, if the city develop a feasible implementation plan. According to Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, digital transformation and application of information technology should be considered an inevitable trend and a priority of the logistics industry in the period of 2021-2025 with 2 strategic tasks in cluding: (1) to focus on developing logistics for the trade industry; (2) to provide chain-related services for import and export.
